This Is Darkness It really sounds like it's taken from some recording from 80 years ago. Tommy manages to make you forget about the laptop, the software and all that stuff. You just see the old piano and violin covered in spider webs and the spectres of grave old men in black suits playing mournful tunes.

Dotflac Bånsull takes you in an abandoned mansion of the 19th century during the winter solstice night.

We smell old wood eaten by termites, we hear the needle of an outdated gramophone skipping grooves on heavy dust, we see a shy fire crackling in its hearth, all of this emerging as lumpy textures and dissonant melodies.

But above all, each cold draft, flickering candle or faded chant suggest the presence of impish spirits examining you from the lingering shadows, as time flows slower than usual. Favorite track: Mørtemann.

about

“I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.”
– Edgar Allan Poe

“Bånsull is an old rare Norwegian word for lullaby.

Folk tales from all around the world has scared small children for centuries, and when i became a father some years ago it was only natural for me to write my own bedtime stories to lull my baby to sleep. For some strange reason these gave her nightmares and she did not sleep for years.

To document this time of our life, i recorded them to a reel to reel tape and hid it in a box in the attic. I then went on to explore other medias, and worked as a sounddesigner, technician and composer for film, TV and contemporary dance performances.

Years went by and i had forgotten all about these recordings, untill one rainy day it knocks on my door and Dronarivm, much like the brothers Grimm, were searching all around europe collecting and publishing unsung melodies from our century. Together we walked up the squeeky stairs and into the dark and dusty attic to search for the lost tapes.

And the rest is history as they say, or in this case, it is about to start…”
